Since 2011 Abbotswood, and therefore the top road, falls within the Conservation area. Therefore those residents whose houses fall within the conservation area, they would be well advised to seek the advice of the GBC planning department when considering any alterations to their properties or work to trees. In July 2013 GBC's planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the removal of permitted development rights on the majority of houses with in the conservation area, this is known as Article 4 Direction.

Although Westward Ho is not in the conservation area, GBC advise all residents to discuss any proposed developments with their direct neighbours.
